- Course objectives
- The course will present Czech Cinema s golden age : the 60's, the Czech New Wave: the generation of Věra Chytilová, Milos Forman, Ivan Passer, Jiří Menzel, Evald Schorm, Jan Němec, Pavel Juráček and others. It will examine the socio-political conditions, the context of cultural and cinematographic development, the intellectual and aesthetic trends, filmmakers and their work. Assessment: essay (5 pages). Literature: Boček, Jaroslav: Kapitoly o filmu (Praha 1968); Zalman, Jan: Umlčený film (Praha 1993); Filmový sborník historický 4 (Praha 1993), čas. Iluminace, 1996, č. 1; Voráč, Jiří: Český film v exilu (disertace, Brno 1998); Film pravda (sborník, Praha 1964); Zlatá sedesátá (sborník z konference, Praha 2001); Cieslar, Jiří & Kopaněva, Galina & Přádná, Stanislava & Skapová, Zdena: Český a slovenský film 60. let (Praha 2002); Boček, Jaroslav: Looking Back on the New Wave (Praha 1967); The Czechoslovak "New Wave" in the Foreign Press (Praha); Hames, Peter: The Czechoslovak New Wave (Los Angeles-London 1985). Films: To be specified. Assesment: essay or written test.
