Course objectives
The seminar will deal with prose, poetry and literary criticism from the eighteen nineties to the nineteen forties. It will focus not only on key works and main tendencies of Czech literature of the period but will mention some "neglected" authors as well.
Syllabus
  • Pre-war modernism in comparison with modernism of the 1890's. 2. The situation when the new generation is appearing, relations between generations. 3. Is new century beginning with the outburst of WWI? 4. Artistic movements at the beginning of the century. 5. General and individual problems, typical representatives of the generation.
