Course objectives
Main objectives can be summarized as follows: to understand basic rules of Latin normative syntax, especially system of subordinated clauses; to apply learned informations to translate sentences from Latin to Czech and from Czech to Latin; to analyze complex Latin sentences; to explain use of grammatical features in Latin sentences; to learn to use synonymic contstructions and to explain differences in signification between them;
Syllabus
  • Comparative clauses (types, use of tenses and moods).
  • Temporal clauses (conjunctions, use of tenses and moods). Oratio obliqua with special attention to conditional clauses (general rules or tendencies, conditional clauses in reported speech).
  • Syntactic and semantic function of Latin cases.
