- Course objectives
- The course is an introduction into the study of history and theory of photography. Although it focuses on major names, dates movements and tendencies, a special attention is paid to major theoretical concepts and interpretative shifts of the period.

- 1. Photography and a photograph 2. Niépce, Daguerre, direct positive 3. Talbot, calotype and negative/ positive process 4. Early photography in Vienna and Czech lands 5. Professional photography 6. Photography outside the narrow European context 7. Photography, museum and history of art 8. Photographs as a form of social representation 9. Artistic ambitions of photographers 10. Amateur photography around 1900
