Course objectives
One of the crucial conditions for understanding history of photography is firstly the knowledge of material and technological background of a photographic object. Secondly, it is ability to identify basic photographic processes. The seminar introduces some of the most significant processes and their impact within history or theory of photography.
Syllabus
  • 1. Photographs as documents, artefacts and objects.
  • 2. Daguerreotype, calotype and other early photographic processes.
  • 3. Albumin print and gelatin silver print.
  • 4. Pigment processes.
  • 5. Reproductions and photomechanical processes.
  • 7. Colour photography.
  • 8. Digital photography and digital prints.
  • 9. Collections of photographs.
