A student must have successfully finished the obligatory subjects (Greek Grammar I, II; History of the Classical Literature I, II).

Course objectives
The qualifying exam consists of a written and an oral part; the student takes both parts in the same exam period. The written part comes first.
Syllabus
  • Active knowledge of Greek vocabulary and normative grammar (extent of 20 lessons of the prescribed textbook W. Heilmann - K. Roeske - R. Walther Lexis. Einführung in die griechische Sprache, Diesterweg, Frankfurt am Main 1972).
  • Passive knowledge of phonology and morphology according to the prescribed textbook J. Niederle - V. Niederle - L. Varcl Mluvnice řeckého jazyka, SPN Praha 1974.
  • General knowledge of the development of Greek literature and the awareness of its connections with the main periods of Roman literature.
  • Thorough knowledge of the required readings (Xenophon: Cyrou paideia - 1st book).
