Course objectives
The course is focused on the systematic exposition of equivalence problematic in the field of translation and mainly in the field of the Russian-Czech equivalence at the lexical, syntactic, stylistic and textual level separately. Its aim is also to practise the Russian-Czech and the Czech-Russian equivalence partly on special exercises, and partly on the selected phenomena from the Russian and the Czech scientific, publicistic and artistic texts. Special attention will be paid to differential and interferential phenomena at single linguistic levels with an accent on lexical phenomena (the level of denomination): the different extent of analytism and synthetism, the different extent of various languages’ historical influence on the lexical system of the Russian and the Czech language, problems of the Russian-Czech homonymy, semantic asymmetry of polysemic lexemes in the Russian and the Czech language, asymmetry of the style stratification in the Russian and the Czech language.
