Course objectives
The course will:
1. introduce students to the principles of effective teaching
2. help students understand more about the English language
3. provide students with a range of practical skills for teaching English to adult learners

Variety of assignment formats will be developed to enable students to demonstrate that they:
1. are familiar with key ELT terminology
2. are sensitive to relevant aspects of professional development
3. can relate ELT practice to theory
4. can write at a level of accuracy that does not jeopardise clarity and comprehensibility, and which reflects a knowledge of discourse, grammar, punctuation and spelling.
Syllabus
  • Teachers are responsible for designing four written assignments which relate directly to the course programme. The scope and assessment criteria for each written assignment are described below. Each assignment should be between 750 and 1,000 words.

    Four written assignments that relate directly to the course programme:
  • 1. One assignment focuses on adult learners and their learning contexts
  • 2. One assignment involves work on the language systems of English
  • 3. One assignment involves work on language skills
  • 4. Lessons from the classroom (classroom teaching)
