- Course objectives
- The intensive course aims at a critical close reading of James Joyce’s novel, Ulysses (1922). As the seminar will be able to focus on selected passages only (to be specified in advance), students are expected to have read the book prior to the start of the seminar (familiarity with Dubliners & A Portrait also advisable). The edition to be worked with, plus a work of annotative criticism, is specified below – and will be accessible in an electronic format well ahead of the commencement of the course. Everyone welcome.

- Assessment methods
- In order to receive a credit for the course, students are expected to have read and studied (with the help of the Gifford) the text in advance, to participate actively (i.e. to engage in a discussion) in the course, and to write a research paper on a topic of their choice. This final paper must be around 2,500 words, MLA-style formatting (footnotes rather than in-text), submitted within a month after the end of the course, i.e. by March 11, 2016.
