Course objectives
The aim of the course is to introduce the evolution of certain segments of the culture in the long term, including their economic dimension, and to introduce students to different ways of thought and policies to cultural activities throughout the centuries and today. The first part of the lectures will take a general form, and various examples from history will illustrate the various possible forms of financing cultural institutions and ways of promoting cultural goods. Second block of lectures will be devoted to different segments of culture and their historical development. The final section connects the historical lessons to the current situation and current trends in specific examples.
