Course objectives
The aim of the subject is to acquaint the students with the characteristics of of the most important periods, authors and works of Russian literature from its very beginnings up to the present time accentuating the 19-21-century literature. The meaning of the course is not only a necessary factography, but, above all, the knowledge of social and aesthetic significance of Russian literature and its crucial texts for world literature, culture and the cultivation of man and his world.

  • 2) The Literature of the Kiev Rus‘
  • 3) The Literature of the Muscovy and of the Beginnings of the Russian Empire
  • 4) The 18th-Century Transitory Period: the Framework of the „Russian Renaissance“, Baroque, Rococo, Neoclassicism, and the Enlightenment
  • 5) Russian Sentimentalism a Preromanticism
  • 6) Russian Romanticism
  • 7) Russian Realism – „the Golden Age“
  • 8) Russian Modernism („the Silver Age“), and the Avantgarde
  • 9) Russian Postmodernism
  • 10) Conservative Streams in Russian Literature

Teaching methods
The lecture is based on the outline and interpretation of Russian literary development applying illustrative examples and textual and intertextual comparative analysis with Czech and world literature.
Assessment methods
The course has a form of a lecture with discussion, oral exam.
