Abstract
The aim of the course is to introduce the key problems of Medieval Latin literature to the students. It provides information about new and older scholarly literature ofp rimary importance for the field (literature) and offers a platform for an exchange of research experience.
Learning outcomes
Students will have an overview of the main methods applicable in the field of medieval Latin literature. They will understand the specific features of the relation between medieval literature written in Latin and in vernacular languages.

  • Literary life in the Middle Ages;
  • research methods: comparative studies, structuralism, genology, typology;
  • relations between Latin and vernacular literature;
  • editing work (part II.).

  • Literature is assigned based on the topics of the dissertation.
  • Literatura: dle zvolených témat doktorských disertací.
Approaches, practices, and methods used in teaching
Lecture, independent review of scholarly literature; seminar work (independent editorial work related to the primary source material), presentation of doctoral projects, seminar discussion.
Method of verifying learning outcomes and course completion requirements
Regular and active class participation; presentation of an independent project.
