Course objectives
Upon completion of this course, students have demonstrated their ability to appraise and evaluate theoretical approaches in their given field of study. They are able to compare and contrast various scholarly approaches. They have a profound knowledge of the discipline including the ability to implement the various skills relating to the specific field of study.
Syllabus
  • Final state exam consists of the following parts:
  • SOUTH SLAVONIC AND BALKAN STUDIES:
  • 1. Defense of the Master’s thesis
  • 2. Linguistic Slavonic studies (with emphasis on South Slavic languages) – oral exam verifying knowledge from the area of theoretical thinking about language, diachronic and synchronic development of South Slavic languages and orientation in stylistics.
  • 3. Literary Slavonic studies and Cultural studies (with emphasis on South Slavic and Balkan area) – oral exam verifying knowledge of theory and newer history of South Slavic literatures in cultural and historical context of respective area, comparative literature and genre studies, exam also verifies orientation in the history of Czech-South Slavic relations and cultural background, eventually the scope of absolved selective courses.
  • 4. Profile language – oral and written exam verifying practical knowledge of selected profile language (Bulgarian, Croatian, Macedonian, Slovene or Serbian), that means knowledge of vocabulary and grammar, and ability to express oneself in writing and speaking on a level of C1 in chosen language.
  • POLISH STUDIES:
  • 1. Defense of the Master’s thesis
  • 2. Linguistic Slavonic studies (with emphasis on Polish) – oral exam verifying knowledge from the area of theoretical thinking about language, diachronic and synchronic development of Polish language and orientation in stylistics.
  • 3. Literary Slavonic studies and Cultural studies (with emphasis on Polish and Central European area) – oral exam verifying knowledge of theory and newer history of Polish literature in cultural and historical context of Central European area, comparative literature and genre studies, exam also verifies orientation in the history of Czech-Polish relations and cultural background.
  • 4. Profile language – oral and written exam verifying practical knowledge of Polish, that means knowledge of vocabulary and grammar, and ability to express oneself in writing and speaking on C1 level.
  • UKRAINIAN STUDIES:
  • 1. Defense of the Master’s thesis
  • 2. Linguistic Slavonic studies (with emphasis on Ukrainian) – oral exam verifying knowledge from the area of theoretical thinking about language, diachronic and synchronic development of Ukrainian language and orientation in stylistics.
  • 3. Literary Slavonic studies and Cultural studies (with emphasis on Ukrainian area) – oral exam verifying knowledge of theory and modern history of Ukrainian literature in cultural and historical context of East and Central European area, comparative literature and genre studies, exam also verifies orientation in the history of Czech-Ukrainian relations and cultural background.
  • 4. Profile language – oral and written exam verifying practical knowledge of Ukrainian, that means knowledge of vocabulary and grammar, and ability to express oneself in writing and speaking on C1 level.
  • SLAVISTICS MAIOR: 1. Defense of the diploma thesis
  • 2. Literary and area Slavonic studies – oral exam verifying (according to selected profile language) the knowledge of theory and history of selected Slavic literature (literatures) in cultural and historical context of particular area (Ukrainian / Eastern Slavic and Central Slavic, eventually Polish / Central Slavic, or South Slavic / Balkan – based on absolved courses student needs to choose one of the areas), comparative literature and genre studies, exam also verifies orientation in the history of mutual relations between Slavic nations and cultural background.
  • 3. Linguistic Slavonic studies and profile Slavic language – oral exam verifying knowledge from the area of theoretical thinking about language, diachronic and synchronic development of a respective Slavic language (languages), orientation in stylistics and practical knowledge of chosen profile language (in such case a written test is part of the exam), that means knowledge of vocabulary, grammar and ability to express oneself in writing and speaking on certain level in chosen language (major requires level B1+ up to B2).
  • SLAVISTICS MINOR: 1. Literary and area Slavonic studies – oral exam verifying knowledge of history of thinking about language, theory and history of chosen Slavic literature (literatures) in cultural and historical context of respective area (Ukrainian / Eastern Slavic and Central Slavic, eventually Polish / Central Slavic, or South Slavic / Balkan – based on absolved courses student needs to choose one of the areas), comparative literature and genre studies.
  • 2. Slavic area and relations between Slavic nations – exam verifies orientation in the history of mutual relations between Slavic nations and cultural background.
