Abstract
Lectures are oriented to the visual art in Europe and North America in the modern times. The main objectives of the course are the following: acquainting students with the basic terms and categories of history of art, as well as with methodology of work of the art historian. An essay has to be written, interpreting a selected oeuvre or set of works.
Learning outcomes
Student will be able to:
- distinguish the main artistic styles and movements since the 16th century
- explain the merits of the main artistic innovations
Key topics
Chronological history of art in modern times, selected problems of interpretation of art, e.g. Picture and Word (emblematics, iconology...), Birth and death of author, Visual representation.
