Course objectives
The aim of this language course is to improve all skills (listening, reading, speaking, writing) and expand the students' vocabulary. Students are expected to perform at level B2+/C1.
This course is designed according to the principle of the flipped classroom. Every other week, students work through a module of the MOOC “Dutch for advanced learners”, which is built around lectures from the University of the Netherlands and Flanders. With the help of various exercises, listening and understanding skills are trained, students' vocabulary is expanded and they train language awareness. Attention is paid to language variation (differences between Dutch-Dutch and Belgian-Dutch, informal colloquial language, etc.). The material that the students have processed at home is practiced in an interactive way during the lectures; vocabulary consolidation and training of speaking and conversation skills are the aim.
In the following week, the students are given a writing task that is linked to the subject of the module. They choose an article, podcast, video,... (for example from the suggestions in “More” at the end of each module) which they discuss during the lectures. They read/listen to the “linguistic input” and select interesting words and collocations. The aim is to increase the linguistic input of students and to stimulate an active reading and listening attitude.
