Course objectives
The course is designed for students of computational linguistics who want to apply their theoretical knowledge in practice. Students can participate in various research and practical tasks related to computer linguistics, natural language processing, corpus linguistics and other current topics related to the field. New tasks will be given for each relevant semester. Students will work in small teams or alone; they will apply for the selected topic and, after filling the capacity of chosen topic, will contact the project manager.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course the student will be able to:
- Apply theoretical knowledge from computational and corpus linguistics
- Manage team work (division of tasks, communication with the supervisor and team members, fulfillment of tasks and abiding the deadlines, etc.); take responsibility for an individual task
- Use online tools for teamwork
- Use the acquired knowledge and skills in further studies and in practice.
Syllabus
  • 1. Introductory meeting - task assignment and division
  • 2. Consultations with the topic supervisor in person or online, team meetings
  • 3. Closing meeting, submission of results and their evaluation
Teaching methods
- Independent work or teamwork - online communication and work division
Assessment methods
Work on the assignment during the semester, communication with the topic supervisor and team members. Active involvement in consultations and successful completion of the assigned task. Presenting the results at the final meeting (individually or as a team).

Teacher's information
For the Spring 2024 semester, we are counting on three students to work on syntactic annotation under the guidance of Dr. Machura. In addition, there will be room for an unlimited number of students to try their hand at creating datasets under the guidance of Mgr. Medkova.
