Course objectives
The course offers the opportunity for active music creation even to students who do not play other musical instruments or play instruments that cannot be used in a symphonic orchestra. In addition to the fundamental skills of playing the Orff instruments, it lays the groundwork for ensemble playing, develops the ability to read musical notation, and leads students to a deeper understanding of musical material. It also introduces the possibilities of improvisation and fosters it through guided collective improvisations.
Learning outcomes
Upon completing the course, the student will be able to:
- Recognize the individual Orff instruments, understand their characteristics, ranges, methods of sound production, and basic applications within an Orff ensemble.
- Master the technique of playing each Orff instrument.
- Interpret individual parts of scores and adapt them to make it feasible for the Orff instruments.
- Create improvisations within the framework of pentatonic and diatonic scales.
- Use boomwhackers to complement the Orff instrumentation and for independent activities that develop musical literacy (inner hearing).
