- Course objectives
- The seminar offers an unconventional view of the ruler of the Holy Roman Empire of the German nation through the lens of travel. It introduces students not only to the aims and nature of imperial expeditions in the 17th and first half of the 18th century, but also to their organizational background. The chosen perspective will also provide insight into the life of contemporary court society, understanding its laws, demands and tastes.
- Learning outcomes
- The course will give those interested the opportunity to orientate themselves in the complex issue of the power position of the Baroque emperors of the Habsburg dynasty - in one person the rulers of the Danube monarchy, the kings of Hungary and Bohemia - and to understand the structure and functioning of their extensive court.
