Course objectives
The aim of the course is to provide a basic overview of the history and present of Internet art and the contemporary and current methods of its exhibition. As part of the theoretical preparation, various approaches to exhibiting Internet art will be discussed, depending on its form, institutionalization and curatorial personalities. The student will be introduced to various positions of Internet art and also the specifics of their exhibition, attention will be paid to key historical examples.
Another main topic of the course is exhibiting art on the Internet, although it does not necessarily have to be Internet art. This part of the course will be conceived historiographically and will also emphasize various ways of organizing and producing art exhibitions in an online environment.
The teaching takes place in the form of a lecture supplemented by discussions and reading of recommended literature. The course is designed as a necessary information background for future curators working with Internet art and organizers of exhibitions independent of the environment (online or physical) and for those interested in Internet art (net art) and its transformations. The graduate of the course is able to critically evaluate an exhibition of Internet art or art on the Internet and participate in the organization of exhibitions.
The course is also supplemented with practical aspects of the implementation of an Internet art exhibition: from curatorial preparation of the exhibition project, promotion, implementation and accompanying program to post-production.
