- Course objectives
- From a political, social, and economic perspective, the course will lead to an understanding of the connections between general developmental trends and regional specifics. It will therefore combine global perspectives on the processes shaping 19th-century development with insights into the history of individual states or regions (e.g., the Far East), focusing on key events and themes, particularly revolutions and wars. The second dimension of the course will be aimed at acquiring different approaches to cultural phenomena. It will enable students to understand the key understanding of culture in the creation of nation states and the formation of national movements, the mutual influence of cultures within and outside Europe, and changes in mentality brought about by revolutions, urbanism, and the understanding of the past. Great emphasis will be placed on explaining the causes of European creativity in the 19th century (new concepts of man in relation to society).
- Learning outcomes
- After completing the course, students will be able to: 1. Identify and summarize the most important trends in political and cultural developments in the 19th century. 2. Prepare a presentation on a specific (chosen) topic and deliver it effectively. 3. Navigate the professional literature on the topic and be able to continue their self-education based on their own reading and study.
