Abstract
The diploma thesis solves a partial professional problem corresponding to the type of study.
Learning outcomes
The submission and defence of the master's thesis should demonstrate that the graduate is able to define, critically evaluate and interpret a certain historical topic in written form at a high professional level on the basis of literature and sources and under the professional guidance of the thesis supervisor.
Key topics
  • The assignment for the Master's thesis should be set when registering for the first diploma seminar, usually at the beginning of the third semester of study. Students may choose the topic of their thesis in agreement with one of the supervising teachers.
  • The thesis shall be at least 140 000 characters long. The binding part of the thesis is the title page, which contains the name of the university, faculty, institute, the title of the thesis, the designation of the type of thesis (master's thesis), the name of the author, the supervisor and the year of preparation, the author's declaration of the originality of the thesis, the contents, the list of sources and literature used and the notes. Students publish the thesis by uploading its electronic version to the MUNI IS.
  • The use of artificial intelligence tools in thesis texts is only permitted as an aid in research, language correction, or text structuring, not as a substitute for authorial activity. Authors are required to state whether and how they have used AI tools, at least in the form of: type of tool (e.g., ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, DeepL, Grammarly), purpose of use (e.g., language checking), scope of use (e.g., specific chapters or stages of thesis preparation). Uncritical adoption of outputs generated by artificial intelligence is a violation of MU's ethical principles at the level of plagiarism. Authors must be able to explain, verify, and defend all parts of the text for which they bear authorial responsibility. Authors acknowledge that AI tool outputs may contain factual errors, unreliable or fictitious information, stylistic inaccuracies, or cultural biases. The use of AI does not relieve authors of their responsibility for the factual accuracy and professional quality of the submitted text. Currently, there are no established forms of citation for outputs from artificial intelligence tools, but if authors have used such tools, they must cite them in accordance with the Modern Language Association standard, see https://style.mla.org/citing-generative-ai/.
