- Abstract
- The aim of the course is to describe the basic structures of the plant cells, explain their origin, development and functions, and also to understand key mechanisms of plant cell function at the molecular- biological level.
- Learning outcomes
- Upon completion of this course, students will be able to: - understand the structure and organization of the plant cell. - explain the functions of individual cellular components and in the context with other parts of the cell. - describe the origin, development, and cellular structures and the entire cell. - explain basic methods used in plant cell research, with an emphasis on molecular biology approaches.
- Key topics
- Structural and functional compartmentalization in plant cells Cell nucleus and nucleolus Plasma membrane Chloroplasts and other plastids Mitochondria and peroxisomes Endomembrane system and transport Cell wall Plant cytoskeleton Cell signalling Ontogenesis and differentiation of plant cells Methods for studying plant cells with a focus on molecular biology approaches
