Course objectives
Lectures cover the topic of sustainable development since the Rio de Janeiro conference in 1992 through the 2002 WSSD in Johannesburg until now. One of the most important tools is data spatial oriented (geoinformation) projects, mainly Global Mapping. Its goal is the creation of a digital map work covering the entire planet in scale 1 : 1 million. Students will get acquainted with methodological, technological, and organizational matters of Global Mapping, as well as creation and realization of data policy in areas with different political, economic, social, and cultural conditions. Emphasis is placed on project realization and its modification in European conditions, especially with regards to EU projects INSPIRE and GMES.
