Course objectives
Surface phenomena. Inpingment rate. Desorption. Adsorption equation. Evaporation and condensation. Volume phenomena. Gas solubility in solids. Diffusion. Saturated pressure measurement. Gas flow measurement. Ion pump. Cryopump. Sorption pump.
Syllabus
  • 1. Introduction: general characterisation of bonded gases, sorption and desorption, materials used in vacuum technology 2. Gases adsorbed on surfaces: interaction in gases, adsorption, desorption, evaporation and condensation 3. Gases in solid materials: gas solubility in solid materials, gas difusion in solid materials, gas permeability through walls, gas flow in solid materials 4. Sorption pumps: cryopumps, zeolit pumps, sublimation and ion pumps 5. Measurement of partial pressures: static and dynamic mass spectrometers 6. Measurement of gas flow: method of increased pressure, mechanical flowmeters, electronic flowcontrollers
