Course objectives
The aim of the subject is presenting an overview of existing analog and digital sources that are used in cartography and geoinformatics, including statistic data sources. This overview is presented in three levels the Czech Republic, Europe (the EU and other countries) and the World. Attention is also paid to data integration in spatial data and information infrastructures and utilization of data, information and knowledge from existing spatial global-oriented projects.
Syllabus
  • 1. Overview and structure of resources for Cartography and Geoinformatics. 2. Analog sources in cartography: map collections, analog maps and atlases 3. State (public) mapping works, selected products (maps and atlases) from public sector road atlases, tourist maps, etc. 4. Digital data sources: data, information and knowledge on the Internet; Electronic atlases 5. The Czech Republic and building digital data sources: civil and military sectors (ZABAGED, DMR, etc.) 6. Unified digital maps of the Czech Republic: theoretic presumptions, concept, practical requirements; Implementation 7. Digital photogrammetry and map works in the Czech Republic 8. Europe: digital map sources within the European Union (SABE, MEGRIN, PETIT, etc.) 9. Europe: digital map sources and other information sources in non-EU countries: ABDS, etc. 10. Creation, concept, and implementation of the European geographic information infrastructure 11. Statistic data sources in the Czech Republic, EU (Eurostat etc.) and the World (UN, FAO, etc.) 12.The World: Global mapping and Global spatial data infrastructure 13. The World: Digital planet Earth and Geographic database of the United Nations
