- Any student should be able to explain the following issues at the end of this course:
understand and explain the concept of metadata in geoinformatics;
create metadata according to the Dublin Core, ISO and ATOM standards;
query a catalogue server compliant to the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) Catalogue Service for Web (CSW) specification;
explain the importance of metadata for an infrastructure of spatial data (information). - Syllabus
- 1. Principles of metadata system design.
- 2. Characteristics of geodata quality and accuracy.
- 3. Metadata spatial standards FGDC.
- 4. Metadata spatial standards CEN.
- 5. Metadata spatial standards ISO/Open GIS.
- 6. Situation in metadata standards in the Czech Republic.
- 7. Classification of spatial data sources in metadata systems.
- 8. Overview of metadata systems in the Czech Republic and worldwide.
- 9. Standards for geodata exchange and interpretation.
- 10. DWIGN (DIGEST) characteristics and their utilization in current Czech Republic and military digital map works.
- 11. Standardization in the area of cartographic visualization.
- 12. Creation of thematic standards.
- 13. Spatial data infrastructures: metadata a standards.
