- Course objectives
- The course is focused on the presentation of the basic theory of thematic cartography, composition skeleton and structure thematical maps, use principles of legend-making, making and use thematic maps and atlases.
- Learning outcomes
- At the end of this course, students should be able to: understand the basic theory of thematic cartography, composition skeleton and structure thematical maps, use principles of legend-making, making and use thematic maps and atlases.

- Lectures: 1. Definition of thematical map, different groups of thematical maps 2. Mandatory nad optional parts of thematical maps 3. Content of thematical maps 4. Scales 5. Quantum GIS - basic functions 6. Quantitative and qualitative data in thematical maps 7. Quantitative data displaying 8. Map concepts - purpose, name and content of thematical maps 9. Construction of different thematical map types 10. Legend of the map, its principles and creation 11. Cartogram in Cartography 12. Selected production of thematical maps and atlases 13. Evaluation of thematical maps Practice 1. Mental thematical maps 2. ArcMap basic knowledge - coordinate systems, selection 3. ArcMap - geoprocessing tools 4. Composition of thematical maps 5.
