Course objectives
The main aim of this subject is to learn to identify vascular plants using identification keys and other tools. Working materials are mainly plant specimens collected by students during their field work for bachelor or diploma thesis.
Learning outcomes
Completing this course, a student will be able to work with plant identification keys and other tools that facilitate plant identification; will improve his knowledge of botanical morphological terminology; will improve his knowledge of central European vascular plants; will have basic experience necessary for the identification of plants in vegetative stage or fragmentary specimens, as well as of plants difficult to identify.
Syllabus
  • There is no particular syllabus for this subject. During two-hour laboratory work, vascular plant collected by the enrolled students during their fieldwork will be identified. The sequence of plant families and other taxonomic groups will reflect the needs and demands of the students of the course. Optionally, if time allows, specimens collected during the abroad botanical excursion will be identified, using Flora europaea and national floras.
