Supplier department: Department of Biochemistry – Chemistry Section – Faculty of Science
Prerequisites
The courses Biochemistry II (C4182en), Molecular biology (Bi4025en) and Introduction to bioinformatics (C2131en)
Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
The course aims to introduce the use of various omics technologies that aim to collectively characterize pools of biological molecules in a single experiment. The focus is on omics technologies in research today.
Learning outcomes
The student will gain insight into the current technologies available to study the different molecular biological levels (genome/transcriptome/proteome/metabolome). The student will be able to assess their applications and critically evaluate them for specific applications. This will be achieved through specific examples. The student will know and understand current identification approaches (sequence analysis/microarray, mass spectrometry) and will be able to analyze and interpret the biological information obtained based on bioinformatic and experimental approaches.
