Supplier department: Department of Biochemistry – Chemistry Section – Faculty of Science - Course Enrolment Limitations
- The course is offered to students of any study field.
- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is that students get acquainted with current topics in biochemistry and cell biology on their own – as a preparation for life-long learning. At the same time, students will be trained in the oral presentation of these topics.
- Learning outcomes
- At the end of this course, students should be able to understand and present new topics in biochemistry and cell biology. Other students in the course will also learn about these topics by listening to the presentations.
- Syllabus
- The program of the course is composed of talks on current topics in biochemistry and cell biology presented by students. At the beginning of the course, the teacher will provide several topics from which each student can select one. If there are more students than weeks in the semester, two students will form one team to prepare and present the topics together. The students will prepare the presentation based on their own scientific background and literature reports. Some literature will be provided by the teacher, but this is not sufficient. The teacher will also provide a short list of expectations for each topic what should be covered in the presentation. The students will prepare a handout and distribute it to all course members one week before the talk such that each course member can get acquainted with the topic. The presentations will be 30 min with 15 min for group discussions. Each course member is requested to ask questions about the presented topic and to get involved in critical discussions. After the presentation, the students will share their slides with the whole group.
