- Abstract
- Students will be provided with a programme of study to improve and enhance their presentation skills and so improve their career prospects. It will encapsulate written presentations using text and graphics, oral presentations and so will be valuable for diploma presentations, curriculum vitae writing, job interviews, report writing and marketing ideas and products.
- Learning outcomes
- At the end of the course students should be able to write a review of a scientific book, journal article or evaluate a conference.
Students will be will manage to create their own grant applications. - Key topics
- 1st–12th week: The preparation focuses on practical training and improvement of the following skills:
- the ability to work with academic texts and conduct a literature review,
- the ability to write a brief annotation in Czech based on one’s own work,
- the ability to write a brief annotation in a foreign language based on one’s own work,
- the ability to write a brief annotation of scientific papers,
- the ability to determine appropriate keywords,
- the ability to organise a bibliography using the EndNote program,
- the ability to analyse an academic text and report on it, and the ability to conduct an on-topic discussion,
- the ability to organise the sequence of tables and figures in an academic paper,
- the ability to edit an academic text – proofreading,
- the ability to prepare a poster and presentation for a scientific conference,
- preparation for seeking the first job.
5th week – Check point 1 – aims of the thesis, research questions (1st year) / working hypotheses, novelty (2nd year),
9th week – Check point 2 – proposal of the methodology of the diploma thesis (1st year) / application of the methodology, state of progress (2nd year),
13th week – Poster presentations by 1st-year students – with an internal discussion of the posters.
14th week – Presentations by 2nd-year students – oral presentations – Presentation of the current state of progress of diploma theses in the presence of PhD students and, where appropriate, teachers from the Institute of Geography – with a detailed discussion of the presentations.- Study resources and literature

- The condition for a successful finishing of the course is 80% attendance in the seminars. Participation in the discussion, homework, individual oral presentations of the master thesis.
