Horizontal bar 6 – Single leg cut

The initial position is a front support, overgrip, hands close to the hips. The gymnast swings one leg out above the level of the bar. At the same time he raises his arm on the same side to swing his leg forward over the bar.During the cut forward, the gymnast transfers his weight over his other supporting arm by tilting his trunk to the side and slightly forward. The movement ends by re-catching the bar in the split support position. Similarly perform the single leg cut backward.

View of the practitioner

In a single leg cut forward, it is very important to transfer weight while maintaining balance. In order to successfully swing one leg over the bar, it is necessary to release the bar with one hand for a certain period of time. Achieving a sufficiently long endurance in the support on one arm is determined by shifting the centre of gravity over the support area of this arm, that is, to the side and slightly forward.

Single leg cut: Biomechanics
  • Insufficient weight shift over the supporting hand.
  • Too wide grip.
