Paediatric basic life support, foreign body airway obstruction
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation algorithm for children
- CPR must be initiated in every child who is unresponsive and is not breathing normally
Most of the cardiac arrests in children are caused by the respiratory failure and the lack of oxygen, therefore it is essential to open the airway and to supply the oxygen (by rescue breaths) during CPR.
Rescue breaths are therefore an integral part of the CPR in children.

We will now describe the individual steps in more detail.
