Cíle předmětu
The course focuses on fundamental principles of management of profit-making as well as non-for-profit organizations. The content of the course corresponds to standard elementary courses of general managmement. Lectures start with focus on the role of organizations in our world as well as the role of individuals (mangers as well as non-managers) within these organizations. Consecutively, the focus is set to the infulence of environment (internal and external alike) on functioning and performance of organizations as well as individuals within these organizations. The final lecture of the opening bloc is dedicated to self-management. Further course of lectures is in line with the concept of managerial functions. This bloc of lectures starts with decision making and continues through planning, organizing, human resources management and leading and finally controlling. The closing bloc of lectures is focusing on selected supplementary topics. Students are presented with basic concepts of information systems management and innovationa nd change management. A presentation of a real-life manager is also part of the course.

Metody hodnocení
Students must present and argue the choice of a managerial problem which they want to analyze and later present and discuss the course of their work leading to the analysis in the form Students must hand in a written assignment – an analysis of one managerial problem of their choice. The choice of the problem needs to be consulted with the lecturer. Written assignments are graded and the grading adds 40 % to the final overall mark for the course. The course ends with a written exam. Students have to pass a written test at the end of semester. The test has four parts: terms matching exercise, multiple choice exercise, “true or false” exercise and problem solving exercise.
