Cíle předmětu
Students will learn to: review and evaluate the quality of existing scientific literature, adequately use online databases, conduct systematic reviews, use adequate writing style and sentence structure depending on the audience. In addition, students will understand the entire publication process, from the initial idea to the publication of the article. Also, students will learn how to use a Mendeley programme to manage a references through the manuscript and/or thesis. Learning outcomes:
Upon completion of this course, students should be able to:
1. Demonstrate an understanding of how to read and critically analyze a scientific paper;
2. Demonstrate understanding of how to use online databases as a main literature search tool;
3. Demonstrate understading on how to conduct a systematic review;
4. Demonstrate understanding of scientific communication, including style and sentence structure,common uses of words, elements of composition, different types of scientific literature;
5. Demonstrate understanding of the entire scientific process from initial idea to publication;
6. Describe and understand the stages of the scientific communication process (prewriting, drafting, managing a references, revising, final editing, audience and purpose analysis).
Výstupy z učení
The course aims to familiarize students with the basic principles of written and oral communication skills in reading, critically analyzing, writing, and distributing (communicating) scientific information in kinesiology.
Osnova
  • - Introduction to the basic types of scientific communication;
  • - Use of online databases as the main search engine for the published literature on the topic of interest (we will give a practical example of Google Schoolar and PubMed);
  • - Reading and critically analyzing the scientific article (from the abstract to the references);
  • - Conducting a systematic review (why and how to) including, but not limited to:
  • • Planning a review;
  • • Defining an appropriate review question;
  • • Justifying the review;
  • • Inclusion and exclusion criteria;
  • • Performing search strategies;
  • • Data extraction;
  • • Critical appraisal;
  • • Data analysis and synthesis;
  • • Evaluation of the systematic review;
  • • Disseminatation of the results;
  • - How do I present my own research data?
  • • Designing a tables and a diagram for the data obtained; • Managing a references (Introduction to Mendeley programme)
  • • Preparing the presentation (for scientific conference, scientific journal, dissertation project);
  • - Where can I publish my own article?
  • - How do I plan the whole process from the initial idea to publication and what does it look like in practice?
