Cíle předmětu
This course aims to offer practical workshops and seminars in order to prepare students for active participation in student conferences organized in different formats. For this reason, the course design is based on presentations of thorough theoretic frameworks, focused on the effective development of presentation and communication skills. At the same time, there is a parallel goal related to the opportunities to gain particular academic experience in International Student Colloquia and Conferences.
Výstupy z učení
Upon completion of this course, students will get acquainted with tools that will enable them to: • prepare conference presentations and posters on academic topics • develop their public speaking skills • get prepared for active participation in academic discussions • express adequately their opinions, and support their statements with arguments • articulate agreement, and disagreement and respond to questions. • use persuasive written strategies to create a convincing academic poster and PPT presentation • Prepare, organize and deliver a conference academic poster presentation using advanced rhetoric strategies
Osnova
  • This semester the content reflects a set of topics shared with partner universities in Europe and Latin America. Therefore, some of the joint seminars have a synchronous online format, ie. real-time online meetings. The course content contributes to the development of students´ productive and receptive language competencies, as well as to the refinement of their communication a presentation skills through specialized exercises. All the assignments throughout the semester are designed in a way to progressively prepare students for the Final Online Student Conference. There are 14 seminars and workshops spread throughout the whole semester: • 9 face-to-face sessions • 5 online sessions (synchronous format, i.e. real-time online meetings) with International partner Universities (UDA - Ecuador, London College – UK, UP- Dominican Republic, Unam - Mexico)

Výukové metody
Each session begins with a brief overview of the theoretical framework. Students are expected to do their reading assignments in advance to familiarize themselves with the main issues as part of their required preparation for the class. Moreover, regular preparation includes readings of recomended texts (ie. articles, case studies and monographs chapters, etc.), completed with topic related videos, Ted talks, podcasts, etc. Class participation is compulsory. The main emphasis of this course is to assure a variety of teaching and learning methods that correspond to hands-on form of seminars and workshops. According to the particular topics scheduled for each lesson, students have to prepare their presentations and academic posters, and deliver them in class, in order to discuss them with their classmates. The assignment includes giving and receiving constructive feedback as part of a reflective analytical approach.
Metody hodnocení
Students will be assessed via portfolio assessment desribed in detail in the study materials (they are expected to submit/do all the assignments listed there, both during the term and in the exam period). active attendance (70%)
