- Anotace
- The course Critical Perspectives on Social Exclusion introduces students to theoretical and practical approaches to analysing social exclusion from the perspective of critical social work. The course develops an understanding of social exclusion as a complex process shaped by structural and cultural conditions, affecting individuals, groups, and communities. Emphasis is placed on the spatial and power dimensions of exclusion. Students will become familiar with theories of power, marginality, and recognition, with the ways “excluded” groups are constructed in public discourse, and with possibilities for emancipatory practices in social work. The course connects theoretical concepts with contemporary examples from both Czech and international contexts.
- Výstupy z učení
- Professional knowledge: Students will acquire knowledge of the theoretical and conceptual frameworks of social exclusion from the perspective of critical social work. They will become familiar with key theories of power, recognition, intersectionality, space, and discourse that explain the mechanisms of social exclusion and marginality. Professional skills: Students will develop the ability to critically analyse social exclusion and to apply theoretical frameworks (Foucault, Fraser, Honneth, Wacquant, Pease, Dominelli) in the context of social work. They will gain skills in identifying power relations, reflecting on their own professional position, and assessing ethical dilemmas in practice. They will be able to use critical and anti-oppressive approaches to interpret and address situations of exclusion in social work.
