Cíle předmětu
This course is for graduate students who plan to write an MA thesis and defend it in the current semester. The purpose of the course is to help the student prepare and submit the thesis for defense. To receive a passing grade, each student is expected consult regularly with his or her thesis supervisor and complete work as assigned. Credit is earned for the course only after the student officially submits the full thesis text for defense.
The main objectives of the course can be summarized as follows:
- to develop the theme and structure of the thesis by writing a preliminary thesis proposal
- to acquire necessary resources for research and writing
- to obtain appropriate bibliographic material
- to develop a timetable for researching and writing the thesis
- to provide support for the student's individual writing and assist in preparation of the thesis manuscript
- to officially submit a final, complete thesis according to Department and University norms in partial fulfillment of the degree requirements
Osnova
  • The student is responsible to agree with a teacher within the Department to serve as thesis supervisor. The student is expected to know and understand the degree requirements, including the formal rules for preparation and submission of the thesis. The student should consult regularly with the thesis supervisor, and make regular progress throughout the semester in producing the thesis. The student is responsible for completing the thesis, according to official rules of contents, formatting, citation, use of sources, language use, etc., by the official deadline.

Výukové metody
The student is responsible to engage in independent research and writing, under the supervision of a thesis supervisor. The student, in cooperation with the supervisor, should identify and obtain appropriate literature. The student is expected to devise a self-directed strategy for completion of the thesis, which may include mutually agreed upon (with the supervisor) deadlines for doing research, analysis, and writing of the manuscript.
Metody hodnocení
Form of teaching: consultations with supervisor
Requirements: participation in consultations; official submission of the thesis manuscript
Evaluation: the teacher will assess whether the student fulfilled the formal requirements of the assignment to produce a complete thesis manuscript that was submitted on time
