Cíle předmětu

The course Sports Journalism aims to introduce students to the key principles, genres, and practices of journalistic writing and reporting in the context of sports. It develops both linguistic and professional competencies by combining theoretical understanding with practical production tasks such as match reports, player profiles, podcasts, and panel discussions. Students will explore how sports journalism informs, entertains, and influences the public while reflecting broader issues such as ethics, gender, politics, and technology. The course also emphasizes the development of advanced sports-related vocabulary, stylistic awareness, and analytical thinking when interpreting journalistic texts. Through individual and group activities, students will gain insight into contemporary trends, including the role of artificial intelligence and digital media in reshaping journalistic work. The overall aim is to enable students to use English creatively and effectively within the field of sports communication, demonstrating the ability to research, produce, and evaluate journalistic content across diverse media platforms. By the end of the course, students should understand the professional standards of sports journalism, be aware of its ethical and social responsibilities, and be prepared to engage critically with how sport is represented and consumed in the media landscape.

Výstupy z učení

Upon completing the course, students will be able to demonstrate a practical and conceptual understanding of sports journalism and its core genres. They will be able to identify and apply the conventions of news reports, player profiles, opinion columns, and sports advertising in English. Students will acquire an expanded range of topic-specific vocabulary and be able to use it appropriately in both spoken and written communication. They will demonstrate the ability to plan, draft, and edit sports-related texts that reflect journalistic accuracy, clarity, and engagement. By completing the podcast and panel discussion components, students will also develop teamwork, interviewing, and oral presentation skills essential for multimedia journalism. Furthermore, students will be able to critically assess ethical and political issues in sports coverage and reflect on their own journalistic decisions. They will understand how digital tools and AI technologies can support content creation and analysis in modern journalism. Finally, through their portfolio, students will show progress in integrating theory with practice, applying feedback, and articulating their personal learning development as aspiring communicators in the dynamic field of sports media.
