- Course objectives
- Objectives: The course is intended to introduce students to the system of Latin morphology to an extent suitable for law students and to expand their plurilingual orientation not only in the academic environment thanks to information about Latin word formation.
- Learning outcomes
- After completing the course, students will be able to pronounce Latin words correctly and understand frequent Latin phrases and abbreviations and use them. They will be able to identify some of the basic morphological categories for the accuracy of the translation of a simple Latin sentence. They will master a sentence translation algorithm different from Czech. And word-formation analyses of Latin words without sound changes will expand their vocabulary for a plurilingual environment.

- Syllabus 1. Latin pronunciation. Grammatical terminology of nouns and adjectives. I. declension of nouns and adjectives 2. Prepositions. II. declension of nouns and adjectives. General phraseologisms. 3. Practicing combinations of prepositions with nouns and adjectives. Grammatical terminology of verbs. Existential verb esse in the present tense. Verbs I. - II. conjugation: present indicative and imperfect, imperative. Word formation: secondary prefixes. 4. Algorithm for translating a Latin sentence. Word formation: primary prefixes. 5. III. declension of nouns – masculine and feminine. Legal phraseology. Frequent Latin abbreviations. 6. Word formation: suffixes according to gender. III. declension of nouns – neuter. Translation of a continuous Latin text. 7. Legal and general phraseology. Possessive pronouns. Etymology. 8. Regular verbs 3. and 4. conjugation: present indicative and imperfect, imperative. 9. Translation of sentences, singular – plural transformation. Interrogative pronouns and adverbs for living Latin. 10. Latin in an academic environment versus living Latin. IV. and V. declension of nouns. 11. Translation of a continuous edited text. 1 12. Translation of an original continuous text. Conversion of parts of speech: substantivization from verbs.

- Teaching methods Interactive language seminar according to the current Interactive curriculum (in IS MUNI) Quiz, exercises with a key, active expansion of vocabulary also for plurilingualism, refinement of meanings - word maps. With continuous home preparation.
- Assessment methods
- Assessment methods Credit for the semester is awarded upon fulfillment of the following conditions: participation and work in seminars with continuous completion of tasks (50%) and successful completion of the credit test (50%). Minimum for awarding credit: 60%.
