Anotace

Ethics in Dentistry provides an introduction to the fundamental principles of ethical reasoning in dental practice. The course familiarises students with how to approach situations in which professional knowledge is intertwined with responsibility towards the patient.

Emphasis is placed on understanding the dentist–patient relationship, communication, informed consent, and respect for patients’ needs and values. Students learn to recognise ethical problems in common situations in dental practice and to reflect on them in a structured way.

Přístupy, postupy a metody používané ve výuce

Teaching is delivered through interactive lectures and seminars that encourage active student participation.

The course includes work with model situations from dental practice (case studies), their analysis, and group discussion. These activities develop the ability to identify ethical problems, reflect on them in a structured way, and propose appropriate solutions.

Emphasis is placed on the formulation and defence of individual viewpoints, respectful and professional communication, and openness to different perspectives. An integral part of the course is also independent study of recommended literature.

Způsob ověření výstupů z učení a požadavky na ukončení

Achievement of the learning outcomes is assessed through an oral discussion (colloquium) on selected ethical issues. Particular emphasis is placed on understanding fundamental ethical principles, their application to specific situations, and the ability to construct and defend arguments.

The award of credit is conditional upon full attendance and active participation in the course.

Náhradní absolvování

In exceptional cases (e.g., study abroad), it is possible, upon prior agreement with the course instructors, to fulfill the course requirements through independent study and assessment of knowledge.
