Course objectives
The course is concieved as a theoretical and practical unit along with the subject of Resuscitation and intensive medicine I and it is interconnected with it.
Students will gain theoretical knowledge and practical skills for adequate care of patients in specific intensive nursing care.
Learning outcomes
Under laboratory conditions students will be able to: - perform bladder catheterization on a dummy; - Carry out proper care of a patient with established permanent catheter and epicystostomy; - correctly take urine in intensive care patients; - Perform intraabdominal pressure measurement; - to know the selected and specific aspects of patient care in intensive care for patients with central nervous system, gastrointestinal, cardiovascular and urinary system disorders. - to characterize concepts related to the nutrition of patients in intensive care (parenteral, enteral nutrition), to describe the specific aspects of nursing care associated with the application of parenteral or enteral nutrition in intensive care; - Know the procedure of introducing a nasogastric probe in patients with airways; - describe the principles of care for patients with different types of infections and understand the importance of preventive measures associated with the spread of intensive care infections; - Define important principles of wound healing in intensive care, incl. possible complications; - describe the principles of care for dying patients, organ donors; - to take care of the deceased in a laboratory environment.
Syllabus
  • - Enteral, nutrition of the patient in intensive care. The importance of quality nutrition in critical situations. Indications, route of administration, types of nutrition, possible complications. Position of the nutrition therapist in the nursing team. Parenteral nutrition of the patient in intensive care. Indications, modes of administration, types of preparations, complications and their prevention, instrumentation and laboratory monitoring. Patient preparation and assistance in introducing percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy, introduction and verification of gastric tube. Highly specialized care before, during and after exercise. Possible complications of their solution. - Nursing care for critically ill children. Caring for child patients in adult workplaces. Barrier care in paediatrics. - Intensive and specific nursing care for the central nervous system (intracerebral, external ventricular drainage, etc.). Patient preparation and lumbar puncture assistance. Highly specialized care before, during and after exercise. Possible complications of their solution. - Intensive and specific nursing care for the cardiovascular system. Patient preparation and assistance in introducing the Swan-Ganz catheter, pericardiac puncture, cardioversion, cardiac stimulation, controlled hypothermia. Highly specialized care before, during and after exercise. Possible complications of their solution. - Intensive and highly specialized care for patients with severe gastrointestinal tract disorders. Special features of monitoring techniques (gastric tonometry, body temperature and others, intraabdominal pressure). Patient preparation and assistance in introducing and testing gastric probe, introducing a balloon probe, stomach rinse, and more. Highly specialized care before, during and after exercise. Possible complications of their solution. ntensive and specific nursing care for the urinary system. Introduction to blood purification methods. Sampling of biological material - urine. Catheterization of the bladder man. Patient preparation and assistance in introducing epicystostomy. Highly specialized care before, during and after exercise. Possible complications of their solution. Intensive and specific nursing care for dying, donor. Care of dying and spiritual service, care of a deceased adult and a child. Nosocomial infections. Prevention, possible procedures against the emergence of nosocomial infections (early infections, nosocomial bronchopneumonia, urinary infections, infections of intravascular catheters). Disinfection; Sterilization. Intensive and specific nursing care for patients with infectious diseases incl. care for an HIV-positive patient and an AIDS patient. Wound and decubitus treatment. The use of wound healing trends with wet and vacuum methods in the prevention of nosocomial infections. Treatment of invasive inputs.
