Course objectives
The aim of the subject is to understand the biokinetics pathways of xenobiotics in the body and using in biological tests of exposure. The aim is to obtain skills in the Ames test for detection of mutagenicity in environmental and human biological materials and the simple tests of genotoxicity (chromosomal aberrations, sister chromatide exchanges). Moreover, students will understand the risks associated with occurrence of heavy metals and the means of their detection.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course student is oriented in basic principles of analyzing contaminants in the environment and foodstuff.
Syllabus
  • Routes of excretion of xenobiotics. Biological tests of exposure. Similarities and differences between children and adults in toxicology. The carcinogenesis. Short-term tests of genotoxicity. Analysis of inorganic pollutants. Food safety.
