Course objectives
At the end of the course students should be able to: 1. Assess selected botanical topics in natural history textbooks 2. Create a simple identification tool (key, atlas) for the selected group of plants 3. Prepare the lesson on the selected botanical topic 4. Obtain expanding botanical information from other sources (books, magazines) 5. Characterize selected groups of vascular plants occurring in the Czech Republic
Learning outcomes
- student uses correct botanical terminology and is able to select concepts and phenomena corresponding to the level of elementary school pupils - student selects and uses the model organisms in the teaching praxis to document the selected concepts and phenomena related to botany of higher plants - student works with plant material and creates didactic subjects for teaching at primary school - student selects appropriate examples to demonstrate human impact on nature with an emphasis on environmental protection

  • Course outline: 1. Spore plants in primary school teaching 2. Gymnosperms in primary school teaching 3. Angiosperms in primary school teaching 4. Botanical curriculum in natural history textbooks 5. Analysis and evaluation of selected botanical topics in natural history textbooks 6. Botanical keys and atlases 7. Journals as a source if additional botanical information 8. Collection and exhibition of natural objects 9. Didactic games in the teaching of botany 10. Lapbook – theory 11. Lapbook – preparation of material 12. Lapbook – presentation

Lecture, dialogue, class discussion, work with the text, presentations, group project.

1. active participation in exercises 2. elaboration of assigned topics and their presentation in exercises

The course is taught annually.
Teacher's information
The course also serves as preparation for the botanical part of the master's degree final exam. Therefore, it is not suitable for students of different fields of study and different grades.
