A pass in SV4MP_1AB2 (English for Social Educators - C).
The course of academic, specialist and specific English at the B2 CEFR level. Speaking is developed mainly through interaction with single or multiple interlocutors with a focus on specialist topics of social education. In the writing domain, the emphasis is laid on the ability to formulate and structure an abstract of Master thesis and a brief literature review while employing the conventions of the genres in question. In this respect attention is also paid to the correct use of lexico-grammatical items to ensure linguistically and logically fluent text. Lexico-grammatical items presented within the instruction of academic writing are of general academic nature, while the vocabulary (see T1―T5) below are discipline/disciplines specific. Grammar at the B2 CEFR level is explained using the examples of the general or general academic English language.

Cíle předmětu
1 Students will acquire the specific and specialist vocabulary presented within the topic (T1― 3, 5) while employing all the language skills, i.e. reading and listening comprehension, writing and speaking.
2 Students will deepen their knowledge and skills of spoken academic discussion with a single or multiple interlocutors using the platform of the social education issues.
3 Students will solidify the knowledge of conventions of formal academic writing in English and practise drafting of a Master thesis abstracto r a short literature review in English.
4 Students will practise the basic principles and strategies for effective processing of the English language input on the basis of academic, specialist and specific language in the domain of the receptive language skills, to ensure both global and detailed understanding.
5 Students will practise and solidify the below mentioned grammar chapters of the B2 CEFR level with a special emphasis on sentence transformations.
6 Students will acquire the basics of peer-review.
Výstupy z učení
By the end of the course, the student will be able to: - understand spoken and written texts in the field of social pedagogy on CEFR B2 level B2
- produce an argumentative essay;
- successfully participate in a spoken interaction dealing with relevant LSP issues at B2 level of the CEFR;
- give an oral presentation on a specialist topic;
- use selected specialist terminology in the topics covered in the course;
- show a good command of selected grammar structures at B2 level of the CEFR;
Osnova
  • Multidisciplinary focus of social education is reflected in the topic-based orientation of the individual courses taught at the Faculty of Education. This course (D) is geared towards the psychological dimension of social education including the specifics of foreign language learning. Being the highest English course on the Master´s programme, it also has a strong focus on academic writing skills and foreign language learning terminology to allow discussion and metadiscussion of indvidual learning styles.
  • Topic 1 PSYCHOLOGY (brain, multiple intelligences model, hard vs. soft skills, IQ, emotional intelligence).
  • Topic 2 SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY (interpersonal phenomena, especially group dynamics, social influence, etc., and intrapersonal phenomena, esp. self-reception, social cognition, etc.).
  • Topic 3 LEARNING STYLE AND STRATEGIES for foreign language learning (cognition, metacognition, knowledge, skills, strategies).
  • Topic 4 ACADEMIC WRITING (abstract as an academic written genre, its functions and "moves", advanced cohesive devices, basics of peer review, principles of constructive feedback for academic written work).
  • Topic 5 PERSONALITY PSYCHOLOGY. Psychoanalytic perspective (structure of personality, dynamics of personality, defence mechanisms, etc.), humanistic perspective (self-concept, etc.).

Course completion requirements:
1 Attendance and active participation in classes (up to 2 classes can be missed)
2 Master thesis abstract
3 Peer-review of master thesis abstract
ONLY STUDENT WHO HAVE SATISFIED THE ABOVE REQUIREMENTS CAN SIT THE FINAL EXAM
4 FINAL EXAM:
Written part: Test (reading comprehension, listening comprehension, grammar and vocabulary, writing), pass mark 65%.
Spoken part: follows the successful completion of the written part. Monologue: presentation of Master thesis project, 3 minutes. Dialogue with a peer using a topic randomly picked by students. Both students present for the entire duration of the spoken exam, pass mark 65%.
Final grade composed of the written and spoken part:
A(100―93%), B (92―86%), C (85―79%), D(78―72%), E (71―65%)
