Cíle předmětu
Course Grammar 1B deals with English grammar at intermediate level. The main objective is to summarize and develop the students' knowledge of particular grammar points (see the Outline of the course below).
Students work on the corresponding units of Macmillan Grammar in Context (used in class as the primary source as well as at home as self-study material). Another source - English Grammar in Use - Third edition(by R. Murphy) is recommended for self-study to those who need and want more practice. Classes are devoted to summary and practice of the grammar issue discussed.
At the end of the course the students should be able to: use the grammar structures discussed in context, form complex sentences, give examples of their own, become competent users of the language, identify and correct the most common mistakes

give examples of their own to demonstrate understanding of the issues discussed;
be aware of the most common mistakes in order to be able to correct them;

  • 3. Quantity 1 - U 31-32 - some vs. any; many vs. much; few vs. little
  • 4. Quantity 2, Pronouns - U 33-34 - no, neither, none; either; both; every vs. each; Pronouns - summary - subjective vs. objective forms, possessive pronouns
  • 5. Adjectives, Adverbs - U 35-36- form (-ed vs. -ing adj) + position in sentence and order of adjectives; Adverbs - formation
  • 6. Adjectives, Adverbs - U 37-38 - comparatives and superlatives of adj and adv
  • 7. Prepositions 1 - U 39-40, U 41-42 - prepositions of place and time, collocations
  • 8. Phrasal verbs 1 - U 43-44 - common phrasal verbs (2-word and 3-word), position of pronouns
  • 9.Conjunctions - U45 - joining sentences using various conjunctions (time, result, etc.)
  • 11. Relative pronouns - U 46-47 - relative pronouns, ommission of pronouns, defining vs. non-defining relative clauses
