Cíle předmětu
Students will develop all four skill areas, reading, listening, speaking and writing, for better communication. As they are expected to enter the class at an upper-intermediate level (CEFR B2), they will work on extending the range and accuracy of their language as well as register.
They will learn to analyze language for teaching purposes and will be aware of the fact that they are changing their roles - from being the users of the language into being a source of information about the language and language model providers.
As an added value to the course, students will focus on and improve key study skills (e.g., organizing study time, critical thinking, dealing with extended texts, writing assignments, etc.).
Výstupy z učení
- The students will be able to actively use the English language in a wide spectrum of communicative situations at the level B2 (CEFR).
- The students will be able to fluently express themselves as well as monitor their performance for accuracy.
- The students will be able to communicate in the English language using different registers (formal and informal) in verbal and written form.
- The students will be able to realistically evaluate their performance and individually work on personal improvement.
- The students will be able to independently work with printed and online materials to improve their skills.

Výukové metody
This class uses a variety of teaching methods such as pair and group work, class and online forum discussions (in Mood-link-a), short class presentations, role-plays, and acted-out dialogues, and learning centers. The Mood_link_a site provides students with more self-study materials.
Metody hodnocení
Students will attend a total of 3 hours every week.
Since this is a practical language course, attendance is expected. The department sets the level of attendance at 80%, so it is suggested that students not miss more than 2 classes.
Throughout the semester there will be various tasks specified by the teacher that make up the continuous assessment. These include a progress test, essay, in-class presentation, and written forum contributions.
The continuous assessment will be based on work done in class with the book Outcomes Advanced (2nd edition) as well as out-of-class assignments.
Students are also expected to study the book English Grammar In Use in their own time.
The final written test (pass mark 70%) will consist of the evaluation of the students' grammar and vocabulary based on the course book as well as general reading and listening comprehension. A test of speaking will also be administered with a pass mark 70%.
The general pass mark for this course is 70% which includes both the continuous assessment and the final test.
