Cíle předmětu
The content of this course consists of two parts. In part I, negation will be briefly discussed as it is dealt with in lots of the generative literature, to move on to a nanosyntactic perspective with a focus on how meaningful syncretism patterns (i.e. *ABA) can be found across different types of negative markers in a crosslinguistic sample (De Clercq 2013, 2018, 2020). This perspective will lead to a discussion of 1° the internal structure of negative markers, 2° bipartite negation, 3° constraints on stacking negative markers, and 4° different types of low(er) scope negation and negative suppletion. In the second part of the course the interaction of standard negation (Miestamo 2005) with the TAM-domain will be the main focus. We will discuss how negative allomorphy conditioned by TAM and/or TAM allomorphy conditioned by negation can be captured in nanosyntax. In addition, negation-related topics like polarity focus, and negative concord will be discussed.

Informace učitele
Karen De Clercq is a CNRS researcher affiliated with the Laboratoire de Linguistique Formelle at Université Paris Cité. She has been working on negation since her PhD, combining typology with nanosyntax to advance the understanding of negation as a linguistic universal. She has also worked on degree morphology (with Pavel Caha, Guido Vanden Wyngaerd, and Michal Starke) and adverbial V3 patterns (with Liliane Haegeman). She is the author of The morphosyntax of negative markers. A nanosyntactic perspective (De Clercq 2020), and a co-editor of Exploring Nanosyntax (Baunaz et al. 2018).
