Course objectives
The subject introduces the basic course of Russian literature history. Its aim is to give a general overview of Russian culture and literature on historical background. It will provide the students with key authors, works, currents, movements and groups in chronological sequence that characterize Russian culture and literature from the oldest times up to now, in connection to social and political development of Russia. The main aim of the course is to equip the students with necessary basic factual information about Russian culture and literature. The course includes independent reading.
Learning outcomes
After finishing the course, the student will be able:
- to identify and to sum up the significant features of the key periods of Russian cultural and historical as well as literary development;
- to determine the key figures, works and artefacts of Russian culture and literature;
- to name and to characterize the key events, currents and streams in Russian culture and literature;
- to explain the connection of the social and political changes in Russian and Russian culture and literature.
Syllabus
  • 1) Russian cultural and historical development and the literature in the oldest times (from Kievan Rus up to the 17th century)
  • 2) Russian cultural and historical development and the literature in the 18th century
  • 3) Russian cultural and historical development and the literature the 19th century (the Golden Age)
  • 4) Russian cultural and historical development and the literature at the turn of the 19th and the 20th centuries (the Silver Age)
  • 5) Russian cultural and historical development and the literature the 20th century (form the revolution to perestroika)
  • 6) Russian cultural and historical development and the literature from 1985 (contemporary Russian culture)
