Předpoklady
No previous knowledge of Ukrainian is required. The language of instruction is English. Students who speak Czech or Slovak can enroll in UJ_22 Ukrajinština pro začátečníky course.

Cíle předmětu
This course introduces students to the Ukrainian language and is aimed at developing listening, speaking, reading and writing skills at the A1 CEFR level. A special attention is given to the accurate use of vocabulary and grammar.
Výstupy z učení
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
– read a simple and short text in Ukrainian and understand its meaning;
– understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases in Ukrainian at the A1 CEFR level;
– present oneself in Ukrainian;
– understand some Ukrainian realia.
Osnova
  • Lesson 1: Basic information about the Ukrainian language. Ukrainian writing system. Ukrainian phonetics and pronunciation. Reading practice (interactive online course).
  • Lesson 2: Greetings and self intoduction in Ukrainian. Basic nouns and everyday phrases. Reading practice (interactive online course).
  • Lesson 3: Numerals 0–20. Food and drinks. Singular and plural nouns. I like/I don't like in Ukrainian.
  • Lesson 4: Shopping in Ukrainian. How many/how much? Numerals 0–100. Speaking practice. Realia: Ukrainian currency (hryvnia).
  • Lesson 5: At the restaurant. Accusative case. Numerals 0–1000. Speaking practice. Realia: popular Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar dishes (borscht, chiberek, varenyky, holubtsi, deruny, chicken Kyiv, kruchenyky, syrnyky, banosh).
  • Lesson 6: Basic verbs. Present tense in Ukrainian. Time markers. Days of the week.
  • Lesson 7: Leisure time. Seasons. Colours and basic adjectives.
  • Lesson 8: Holidays and celebrations in Ukraine. Vyshyvanka day. Traditional Ukrainian dishes. Singular and plural nouns. Realia: vyshyvanka, pysanky, ornek, paska bread, kutia.
  • Lesson 9: Transport. City, town and village. Nature. Verbs of movement. Basic adverbs.
  • Lesson 10: Self presentation in Ukrainian. Modal verbs. Quiz about Ukraine.
  • Lesson 11: Revision.

Výukové metody
The course is taught by a native Ukrainian speaker who combines various teaching methods: student-centered approach, differentiated instruction, role-playing, technology-based learning.
Metody hodnocení
Active participation in the seminars (two unexcused absences tolerated), regular homework, final test with the passing grade being 70%. A student who has more than two unexcused absences will not be allowed to sit the final test. The final test consists of two parts: written and oral, with the oral part being short self presentation in Ukrainian (up to 5 sentences).
